The Range of Treatments For Crohn s Disease

The primary goal for Crohn s Disease treatment is to control inflammation in the digestive system. Because most of the symptoms are a result of the swelling, most of the negative effects of the disease will cease when inflammation is reduced. Treatment may include medication therapy, or in extreme cases, surgery.
Medication to treat Crohn s disease falls into one of four categories: anti-inflammatory drugs, immune system suppressors, antibiotics, and symptom relief drugs.
Anti-inflammatory medications, such as Sulfasalazine, Mesalamine, and Corticosteroids, are usually the first step in treating Crohn s Disease. Sulfasalazine is very effective; however, it has severe side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, and headaches. Mesalamine, on the other hand, has fewer side effects but has been used for considerably less time. Corticosteroids are a common treatment for a myriad of disorders. However, they are less effective in Crohn s Disease and have serious side effects.
Because Crohn s Disease is caused by an exaggerated response of your immune system, immune suppressors are often an effective form of treatment. Azathioprine and mercaptopurine are the most common forms used to treat IBD. Unfortunately, many of these medications cause very negative side effects, such as liver damage, high blood pressure, cancer and increased risk of infection.
Antibiotics are typically used to reduce infection and to heal fistulas and abscesses. These, too, have potential side effects; however, in the case of infection, treatment is necessary to avoid progression.
Symptom relief medications are often necessary as the effects of Crohn s Disease are so severe. Anti-diarrheals, laxatives, pain relievers, iron supplements, and nutritional supplements may make Crohn s more bearable for sufferers. Due to excessive diarrhea, medication is often necessary to avoid dehydration and to improve the quality of life in general. On the other hand, inflammation may cause constipation also; so laxatives may be used to promote bowel movements. Abdominal pain is a common complaint among those with IBD; however, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen and aspirin, should not be used to treat Crohn s. Nutritional and iron supplements may be used to replenish lacking vitamins and minerals to your system.
Surgery is sometimes required in severe cases of Crohn s. It may be necessary to remove diseased portions of your digestive tract, or simply to close fistulas and drain abscesses. However, surgery is usually only used as a last resort after other treatment methods have been ineffective.
Crohn s Disease can not be cured; however, with many of these treatment methods, relief may be available from the disease.

Introduction To Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are often described as an outward expression of internal emotional pain and confusion. Eating disorders afflict millions of people, thousands of which will die from them yearly. There is good news though, eating disorders can be beaten. An eating disorder involves a distorted pattern of thinking about food and size/weight: there is a preoccupation and obsession with food, as well as an issue of control or lack of control around food and its consumption. Eating is controlled by many factors, including appetite, food availability, family, peer, and cultural practices, and attempts at voluntary control. Dieting to a body weight leaner than needed for health is highly promoted by current fashion trends, sales campaigns for special foods, and in some activities and professions. Eating disorders involve serious disturbances in eating behavior, such as extreme and unhealthy reduction of food intake or severe overeating, as well as feelings of distress or extreme concern about body shape or weight.
These are also the three most common eating disorders. Eating disorders can cause heart and kidney problems and even death.Eating disorders frequently co-occur with other psychiatric disorders such as depression, substance abuse, and anxiety disorders. The main types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. A third type, binge-eating disorder. Eating disorders are not due to a failure of will or behavior; rather, they are real, treatable medical illnesses in which certain maladaptive patterns of eating take on a life of their own. Eating disorders frequently develop during adolescence or early adulthood, but some reports indicate their onset can occur during childhood or later in adulthood. In addition, people who suffer from eating disorders can experience a wide range of physical health complications, including serious heart conditions and kidney failure which may lead to death.
Eating Disorders are about being convinced that your whole self-esteem is hinged on. Eating Disorders are about attempting to control your life and emotions through food/lack of food. A person with anorexia nervosa typically starves himself or herself to be thin and experiences excessive weight loss, typically 15% below the weight that doctors consider ideal for his or her height and age. A child with anorexia or bulimia may experience dehydration as well as other medical complications. Anorexia may affect a child s growth, bone mass, cause puberty delays, an irregular heartbeat and blood pressure problems, and gastrointestinal problems. Treatment of anorexia calls for a specific program that involves three main phases: (1) restoring weight lost to severe dieting and purging; (2) treating psychological disturbances such as distortion of body image, low self-esteem, and interpersonal conflicts; and (3) achieving long-term remission and rehabilitation, or full recovery.

Home Remedies To Whiten Your Teeth

Do you want to get your teeth whitened but you are wary about the effect the bleaching would have on your teeth? Not to worry. When there is a will, there is a way. Why not try home remedies for teeth whitening that can be as good as any professional teeth whitening process. Before you learn about what whitens your teeth, find out what causes your teeth to get discolored/ stained:
1. Acid content of foods citrus fruits and all the foods that contain any amount of acid cause discoloration of the enamel over time. Hence, avoid eating such foods before sleeping. If you do ensure that you rinse your mouth or brush your teeth well afterwards.
2. Dark beverages the basic rule that applies here is anything that could cause staining to a white T-shirt can stain your teeth as well. Hence, tea, coffee, coca cola, wine, soya sauce and the like are a no-no for those who are conscious about their teeth color. This does not mean you totally avoid it; however, you would need to be extremely careful to have your mouth cleaned after you consume any such drinks.
3. Sweets and chocolates the same applies to this group of foods. If you eat chocolates and sweets and do not rinse your mouth afterwards, your teeth would develop bacteria an acid inside the mouth which would eat into the enamel besides discoloring it.
4. Smoking smoking would bring nicotine onto the teeth and have these stained brown initially, which would gradually turn into black. You would definitely need to regulate (meaning that you should not smoke more than 2-3 cigarettes per day) or altogether stop this harmful habit.
Fortunately, Mother Nature has a natural remedy for every problem. You do not need the help of any professional teeth whitening to have a one of the brightest smiles possible. All you have to do is take the natural way to maintain and promote the natural color of your teeth. This could be done by the following methods:
1. Mouth hygiene habits you need to develop the habit of rinsing the mouth after consuming any food. This would ensure that you get rid of any possible bacteria causing particles that would stick to your teeth after mastication. You need not brush your teeth every time you eat something (though it would be great if you did); only rinsing with water for a few times would be great.
2. Eating right avoid too much starchy foods as well as acid causing foods. Eat more saliva creating foods such as apples, sugar cane, guavas, cucumbers, celery, etc. The effect of this food would not only be on the teeth but also on your digestive system since these would give you the much-needed fiber that aids digestion.
3. Use common salt the common salt is a great way to get your teeth whitened. Use this instead of your paste at least twice a week for the best effects. Be sure that you rinse your mouth often so you would swallow any salt.
4. Home made tooth whitening solution you can make your own teeth whitening solution at home take baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in 1:1 ratio and make a paste that has the same consistency as toothpaste. You will find the taste of the peroxide horrible and hence, to mask it you could add some flavor such as mint (made paste) to the mixture. You would need to apply this mixture to your teeth for about 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off. Be careful not to ingest any of this paste as it is harmful; if you do, drink a lot of water to neutralize its effect.
Caution: always check with your dentist before using any type (including the home remedies) of teeth whitening, lest you would end up harming yourself more than helping.
Try home remedies for teeth whitening that can be as good as any professional teeth whitening process.

Constipation The Main Hemorrhoids Cause

Often times the right information can change a person s life. Read this carefully and I hope it will help you. Most of us overlook constipation as a dangerous complication, and each day that passes by and we don t deal with it, risk of hemorrhoids grows more and more.
Any number from 3 to around 15 times a week ought to be ok for a natural bowel movement, less then that and we can speak about constipation.
Constipation signs:
1) If you have hard stool less then three times a week.
2) Often strain during bowel movements.
3) Are bloated or feeling discomfort.
There is no scientific evidence that body absorbs more toxins if you have irregular or infrequent stool, but one thing is sure, as your stool waits inside, more and more water is absorbed by your body and stool becomes harder and harder.
Constipation can be divided between the recent (acute) or long-term (chronic). Long term constipation requires fast medical check-up and diagnosis because it can be caused by dangerous medical problems.
Origin of constipation
One of the most frequent cause of constipation and hemorrhoids is not paying regard to your bowel movements. Occasionally it is ok to postpone bowel movement, when there is no toilet around or place is not permitting, but most of the times we postpone it because of pure laziness.
During digestion, waste is pushed through your intestines by muscle contractions and during that, most of water and salt is absorbed back. If your water intake is inadequate, water absorbed by digestion will stiffen your stool causing intestinal slowdown.
Slow-paced transit of digesting food through colon is the most common source for constipation. Alternate causes may be medications (iron supplements, antidepressants, pain medications), diet (shortage of fiber), bad bowel movement habits, over use of laxatives, colon diseases, hormonal disorders or pelvic floor dysfunction. How is constipation diagnosed and evaluated?
As constipation is the leading cause of hemorrhoids, lots of tests for constipation and hemorrhoids are alike, and patient history is extremely significant. Exactly which exam or tests will be performed by physician will depend on your condition.
History of patient can expose medications and diseases that may be the origin for constipation, also keeping a food log for a one or two weeks can show a lot to your physician, for example a diet low in fiber.
If one of these basic methods are not sufficient to point to constipation source, your doctor can also perform one of the consequent methods similar for diagnosing cause of constipation and hemorrhoids: colonic motility studies, abdominal x-ray or blood tests. One other argument why you ought to deal with constipation as soon as you can is that it can lead to a condition called fecal impaction, when stool hardens so much that it can not be passed by natural bowel movements but have to be removed manually.
You should also refrain from using laxatives regularly, or you could develop lazy bowel syndrome, when that happens you have become so addicted to laxatives that your bowels don t function normally.
